Seamed Stockings

by TightsMad

Seamed stockings scream glamour and sexy elegance, and like most fashion themes they have made a come back into the forefront of fashionistas wardrobe portfolios! Seamed stockings were first popular in the 1950s, when they were seen as a symbol of decency as the lack of a seam on a lady’s leg was associated with bare legs. Bare legs were considered to be undignified. Nowadays there are no such associations of course as fashion has moved on a long way since then and bare legs are perfectly acceptable.

Instead seamed stockings have taken on a different connotation of glamour, probably in association with the fashion of the 50’s, including fur, pencil skirts and high heels. The quality and fit of seamed stockings has also come a very long way since the early nylons so they don’t wrinkle around your ankles or drop down when they go baggy! Seams have rocketed back into the fashion world recently and it looks like they are here to stay.

For that reason, lots of big, mainstream brands are now making seamed stockings, including that well-known giant of the hosiery world, Pretty Polly.
Their Vintage Style Stockings will add a touch of glamour to any wardrobe, but they are comfortable to wear and not too expensive. They are super soft, matte, 10 denier, with a plain welt, reinforced heel and toe, and that all-important back seam. They come in black and nude, both providing classic style.

If you want to be a bit different and stray from the path of conventionality you can always wear Jonathon Aston Contrast Seam and Heel Stockings. These basically have a contrasting colour back seam, heel and toe, to the colour of the legs. They come in champagne with a red seam or a black seam so you will really stand out from the glamour crowd. The champagne colour warms up the skin tone of your legs and the traditional reinforced heel and toe add to the authentic, vintage feel. They have a glossy sheen and have a soft and stretchy welt at the top, and the leg also has quite a lot of stretch so the fit should be perfect.

Contrast seams and colourful stockings seem to be the contemporary twist on the classic seam! Pamela Mann also makes some contrast seamed stockings, the Jives are ultra sheer for a natural look against your leg with a reinforced toe and heel, and a contrasting colour seam. They come in natural with a black seam for a sexy, sophisticated look; natural with a same colour natural seam for classic, understated elegance; natural with a red seam if you feel daring; red with a black seam to really make a statement and stand out; white with a black seam and white with a white seam if you’re looking for a little bit of innocent glamour.

There are other seamed stockings out there by other brands, in classic black and natural colours, as well as a variety of seamed hold ups and tights. Seamed stockings definitely lead the way though for subtle but sultry sexiness, vintage glamour and a bang up to date look.
