Seamed Tights

by TightsMad

Seamed tights add a touch of glamour to any special outfit and have a certain retro, vintage feeling. Think 1950’s fashion, pencil skirts, fur stoles and seamed stockings with high heels and rounded or peep toes - a style of shoe that has come back round and is very current.

In the 1950s the lack of a seam line on a lady’s leg was associated with bare legs, which were seen as undignified and common. So even though seam free stockings had been introduced by then they were slow to gain popularity. Early seamless stockings were also poorly shaped compared to shaped, seamed stockings, unlike the seamed stockings and tights that you can buy nowadays of course.

Fully fashioned 1950’s seamed stockings were well shaped on the foot and heel but the material they were made from wasn’t stretchy and sometimes they would go a bit baggy at the ankle so that fine wrinkles appeared. It was important to check that your seams were straight using a mirror or by asking a sister or friend to check.

Advances in technology and the many different fibres that tights and stockings are made from nowadays means that you can achieve a glamorous, sexy, vintage look without the baggy ankles or wrinkles and with a lot more comfort. Pretty Polly make a range of seamed tights including their classic Vintage Style Tights that are 10 denier, matte tights in barely black or nude with reinforced heels and toes. They are made from 86% Nylon and 14% Elastane (Lycra) but with a cotton gusset. They are soft and comfortable and guaranteed to make you feel glamorous.

They also make extra sheer back seam tights in black or nude that apparently give the illusion of leg lengthening and with a subtle seam running vertically from the heel to hip your legs will get that extra attention they deserve!

If you prefer stockings to tights Pretty Polly also do Vintage Style Stockings with a back seam. They are super soft, 10 denier, matte in barely black or nude with reinforced toes and heels, and a plain top. They are made from 86% Nylon and 14% Elastane (Lycra) so they have the stretch you need to avoid wrinkles. They are the ultimate in sexy, vintage glamour and guaranteed to make you feel good!

I prefer seamed stockings to tights, if it’s not Winter. :)
